Telangana to get seven new municipal corporations

HYDERABAD: The Government of Telangana has decided to form seven new municipal corporations adding to the existing six mostly in the peripheral areas of Greater Hyderabad taking the total number of corporations in the state to 13.

The State cabinet considered about the new municipal corporations on July 17. The proposed municipal corporations include Peerzadiguda, Boduppal, Jawaharnagar, Bandlaguda, Badangpet and Nizampet. The government proposes to combine Meerpet and Jillelaguda municipalities and form a separate municipal corporation called Meerpet. The corporations include Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation with 66 wards, Karimnagar with 60 wards, Ramagundam with 50, Nizamabad and Khammam with 60 wards each, 32 wards in Badangpet, 22 in Bandlaguda Jagir , Meerpet (Meerpet and Jillelaguda) combined with 46, Boduppal with 28 wards, Peerzadiguda-26 wards, Jawaharnagar- 28 wards , Nizampet -33 wards and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation with 150 wards. Apart from the 13 municipal corporations, there would be 128 municipalities in the state.

K Chandrashekar Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana, on July 17, said that the earlier municipalities were formed  on the basis of  executive orders but now even forming a gram panchayat would be through discussion in the Assembly. Rao further added that the population in the municipalities is increasing hence the number of wards were increased.
