Officials from HMDA stated that the present STPs are not sufficient to treat the entire inflows into the lake from upstream. The bidder will have to set up the infrastructure along with the plants and look after the operation and maintenance for the next 20 years. Officials have yet to confirm if the STPs would treat the entire inflows before reaching the lake.

The STPs are located at IDL Lake, Kukatpally (5MLD), near KIMS hospital, Patigadda (30 MLD), and near Indira Gandhi rotary (20MLD).
