CHENNAI: The Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to spend Rs 44.15 crore to distribute free of cost sanitary napkins under the Menstrual Hygiene Programme. The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, has issued the order which directs the authorities to implement the programme in urban and rural areas of the state. The project will cover adolescent girls, postnatal mothers who delivered in government health institutions, and women prisoners.
The order issued by the state government included the extension of the programme in the Institute of Mental Health in Chennai. It was issued in context of the announcement made by Edapalli K Palaniswami, Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu, on the floor of the state legislative assembly.
