THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Kerala: The Southwest monsoon arrived early, making its onset two days ahead of schedule over Kerala and bringing heavy rainfall to several areas of the state.
Ernakulam, Kottayam, and Idukki have experienced severe downpours, leading to landslides, waterlogging, and the uprooting of trees.
In the Poochapra and Kolappra areas of Idukki, landslides and uprooted trees caused damage to some houses and vehicles, although no casualties were reported.
Due to the potential threat of mudslides, traffic restrictions were implemented along the Thodupuzha-Puliyanmala state highway.
Additionally, the authorities in Idukki raised five shutters of the Malankara Dam and advised residents living along the banks of the Thodupuzha and Muvattupuzha rivers to be cautious.
In neighboring Kottayam district, people residing near the Meenachal and Manimala rivers were also urged to stay vigilant due to heavy rainfall in various parts of the district.
