NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India submitted its report on the number of employments generated by the Startup India Programme on July 20, to the Indian Parliament. The data covers the period from January 2016, when the Startup India Programme was launched, to June 30, 2022. In this time period, 72,993 businesses were registered in India, which generated around 7.68 lakh jobs.
Maharashtra topped the list in terms of jobs created by startups under the programme across the nation. Over 1.46 lakh jobs were created in Maharashtra in the last six years. Karnataka, whose capital city is the tech hub Bengaluru, came a distant second in the list with creation of around 1.03 lakh jobs. Delhi ranked third in the list with 87,643 jobs.
