Srinagar to construct 100 eco-friendly bus bays

SRINAGAR: After a joint meeting held among the Chief Secretary, BVR Subrahmanyam, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) authorities, divisional administration and, district administration, plans to construct 100 eco-friendly bus bays across Srinagar was revealed. The SMC has been directed to float a tender for the construction of these bays.

Chief Secretary took note of the absence of uniform signage or colour on the public transport running in Srinagar city and said, “All buses and other passenger vehicles should be colour-coded and must have common signage. A night bus service from six to twelve should be started in Srinagar to improve public mobility during night hours.”

A government spokesperson said that the Chief Secretary has directed the traffic police to ensure strict compliance with the municipal laws.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner was asked to verify the number of route permits issued in Srinagar and send a copy to the office of Chief Secretary.
