Sputnik V COVID vaccine found 97.6% effective: Study

NEW DELHI: Denis Logunov, Lead developer of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, said on Friday, April 16 that the shot had proven itself to be be 97.6 per cent effective against COVID-19 infection in the real-world assessment. The new statistic is higher than the earlier results of 91.6 per cent effectiveness from a large scale trial of Sputnik V vaccine which was published in The Lancet journal.

The study was conducted on the data from 3.8 million people, who received both doses of vaccine. The scientists at Gamaleya institute, Moscow, the developer of the vaccine calculated a real-world effectiveness rate of 97.6 per cent, added Logunov during a presentation for the Russian Academy of Sciences.
