Some countries to face tougher times fighting COVID-19: WHO

NEW DELHI: Dr Tedros Adhanom, Director-General of World Health Organisation, on Friday, October 23, said that the world is at a serious position regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and certain countries, particularly those in the Northern hemisphere, are on a vulnerable track as the facilities of the health services are exhausting under the strain. The coming months are going to be very difficult for everyone.

Dr Tedros also urged leaders to take strict and immediate action to defend against increased unwanted deaths, essential health services breaking down and schools shutting down again. He added that as he said in February, this is not a routine. It is only October yet and many countries are seeing rampant growth in the number of positive corona cases. This is resulting in exhaustion of hospitals and intensive care units.
