SRINAGAR: The authorities in Srinagar have identified 12 spots on the Jhelum bund to be developed into social spaces. The authorities plan to fully illuminate the bund with floodlights, where people can hang out during evening hours. This is being done under the Smart City project.
Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar said, “The idea behind identifying and developing these spots along the river is to restore the pristine glory of the bund.”
He said that under the project, the authorities plan to “create an ambience along the bund where one can enjoy a cup of tea or snacks during evening hours with friends or family”.
The Chief Secretary observed during the review meeting that “Srinagar is a city of bridges and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) must prepare a detailed plan for installing decorative lighting and seating on the bridges to make them social spaces where friends and families can come and interact with each other”. “Srinagar should be full of lights,” the Chief Secretary remarked.
After the review meeting, the Mayor of Municipal Corporation directed the concerned ward officials to carry out a ‘street lighting census’ in Srinagar as the SMC has proposed to bring an automated street lighting system, which would be included in the Smart City project.
