NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Education, Government of India, on Monday, June 27, has released the Performance Grading Index for Districts for 2019. In the Index, Sikar district emerged as the top performer, followed by JhunJhunu and Jaipur.
The Performance Grading Index comprises of 83 indicators, grouped into six categories, which are effective classroom transactions, outcomes, infrastructure facilities and student entitlements, school safety and child protection, digital learning and governance process.
In the index, districts are grouped into categories, based on their scores attained in the above mentioned indicators. These categories are, ‘Utkarsh’ (81-90 per cent), ‘Ati-Uttam’ (71-80 per cent), ‘Uttam’ (61-70 per cent), ‘Prachesta–I’ (51-60 per cent), ‘Prachesta–II’ (41-50 per cent) and ‘Pracheta–III’ (31-40 per cent). The lowest grade of the index is ‘Akanshi’–3, which is assigned to districts scoring only 10 per cent of total points.
Punjab is in the lead with 14 districts in the ‘Ati-Uttam’ category, followed by Gujarat and Kerala, which have 13 districts each in the same category. There are 12 states/union territories which do not even have a single district in the ‘Ati-Uttam’ and ‘Uttam’ categories, including the northeastern states.
