GANGTOK, Sikkim: Tourist vehicles entering Sikkim are now required to have a large garbage bag on board, according to an order from the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department.
The decision was made to encourage community involvement to work towards the objective of environmental sustainability.
The official order stated that it would be the responsibility of the tour operators, travel agencies, and vehicle drivers to inform the traveler about the use of garbage bags for waste disposal.
The order further mentioned that random checks of tourist cars would be conducted to ensure compliance and any vehicle found violating the order would be penalised.
