GANGTOK, Sikkim: Sikkim has been acknowledged as the ‘First Organic State in the World’ and ‘Crime Free State’ by the World Book of Records, London. Primarily, Sikkim is the only state in the world that has achieved 100 per cent implementation of organic policy.
Sikkim is the only state, which has eliminated the use of inorganic fertilisers and pesticides within its border. This has benefited more than 66,000 farming households in the state. World Book of Record made the declaration at a ceremony held in the state capital Gangtok.
The Governor of Sikkim Ganga Prasad has been presented with the citation as the ‘First Organic State in the World’ and ‘Crime Free State’ with the best governance.
