VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has finally come up with a plan to ensure that not to release untreated water into the canals. A waste water treatment plant that uses Anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) technology would be set up by civic body.
The AnMBR filters the sewage and separates the effluent and sludge which is later treated anaerobically with mesophilic bacteria and would produce methane as a by-product which can be used to generate energy.
Over 150 million litres of sewage per day is generated by city and a considerable quantity of it goes into the three irrigation canals — Bandar, Ryves and Eluru — Budameru rivulet and Krishna River.
According to the civic officials, the proposed plant would be installed at the Municipal Guest House premises on the bund of Bandar Canal where 2.5 million litres of sewage per day is expected to be treated.
