SDMC to geo tag parks, open gyms in its jurisdiction

NEW DELHI: If you live in jurisdiction of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), finding a park for recreational purposes won’t be a humongous task anymore. The SDMC has recently launched a project called, “Know your park or gym” under which the civic body will geo-tag all recreational facilities such as municipal parks, open gyms, playing spots like Nandan Van and other areas developed in markets and will share their information including the exact location on 311 app.

A senior SDMC official said that the project aims at providing the interested residents information about nearby recreational area of their location to use them as per their convenience. To mark the exact location of these parks the IT department have already started providing training to officials for mapping longitude and latitude of these sites.

Kamaljeet Sherawat, leader of house, SDMC said, “This will help them to mark the exact location of these places and share them on an app. People can use the tool to locate these sites. Trained horticulture officials will further help other staff to cover all parks with such facilities in their areas in a time-bound manner.”

According to the SDMC there are more than 6,822 parks in SDMC’s jurisdiction and 1,050 out of them have open gyms and 850 parks have playing equipment’s for the kids.
