NEW DELHI: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided on January 31, as its deadline for finishing the work on three children’s parks in New Friends Colony, Dwarka, and Mayapuri. These recreational parks will be made of waste and discarded material.
At New Friends Colony, play equipment, gazebos, sitting area, toilet blocks, office and even the entrances are being made out of 12 discarded shipping containers received from Container Corporation of India Limited, a public sector undertaking. The play equipment have been installed and the park has been leveled. These parks are being developed on a 2-acre plot in Ishwar Nagar and will be open to the public latest by December end, said a senior SDMC official. Moreover, in West Delhi a 2.6-acre plot has been obtained near Mayapuri from the Delhi Development Authority and the process of converting it into children’s park from dump yard will start soon.
