NEW DELHI: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) organised cleanliness drives to combat solid waste pollution and spread awareness along with the launch of Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign across South Delhi on September 15, 2018. This drive was conducted particularly at religous place, monuments, and tourist spots to attract the maximum number of residents and visitors.
Narendra Chawla, Mayor led the drive with Shikha Rai, chairperson of standing committee, Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, commissioner SDMC and other elected representatives. About 400 Swachhta rallies were organized in the south zone.
The rally flagged of many mechanical sweepers, little pickers, water sprinklers and discouraged the use of plastic.
Chawla said that mechanization of cleanliness related works under the drive helped SDMC to improve its rank from 204 to 32.
Awareness rallies were organized in all four zones under the civic body, and 114 SDMC schools.
Swachhta Abhiyan was organised at Mehrauli, Lotus Temple, Qutub Minar, Humayun Tomb, Delhi Zoo, Old Fort, District centre Janakpuri, Iskcon Temple Punjabi Bagh, Raja Garden, Kalkaji, Iskcon Temple, Iskcon temple Dwarka, and CGO Complex.
