NEW DELHI: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), on Thursday, January 2, inaugurated the area’s first fully automated tower car parking facility near the Green Park metro station. The move was made in order to reduce traffic congestion due to unregulated car parking in Yusuf Sarai Market.
The two towers are 39.50 meters tall, have 17 levels for car parking and can accommodate up to 102 cars. Gyanesh Bharti, Commissioner, SDMC highlighted that the retrieval time for vehicles would be up to three minutes, a fifth of the average of conventional car parking lots.
Cars would be taken to different floors via hydraulic lifts and vertical and horizontal movement of parking spots is enabled by pallets. The facility has designated 1.50 square meter space for singular car parking, lesser than a conventional car parking.
The car parking doesn’t need ramps, walking areas as the towers are completely automated. This is an improvement to pre-established parking lots at Sarojini Nagar and Kamla Nagar, which utilise shutter parking system. The retrieval in these is tedious as each lift takes up to 10-15 minutes.
Hardeep Puri, Minister of State (IC) Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) who attended the inauguration, said, “This is Delhi’s first fully automated tower car parking. It is the most feasible new-age parking system to overcome issues in and around Green Park area.”
