NEW DELHI: Aquila restaurant, New Delhi, had to face retaliation for allegedly denying entry to a woman as she was dressed in Indian attire. Abhishek Dutt, Councilor, Andrews Ganj, has sought a fine of Rs 5 lakh from the establishment for the same.

Dutt passed a proposal in South Delhi Municipal Corporation demanding that such establishments should face retaliation in the form of hefty fines or shutting them down for a specific period of time. He was prompted to move this proposal after a woman who was wearing a ‘saree’ was denied entry into the restaurant, saying that her attire does not qualify in the ‘smart casual’ category.

His proposal will be tabled in the House meeting on September 29.
