FARIDABAD: The Kant Enclave in Surajkund will be facing complete demolition of the colony. The decision of demolition was taken after the Supreme Court declared the entire complex illegal as it was violating Punjab Land Preservation (PLPA) Act. Under the act, the area upon which the enclave was constructed, was declared forest land and hence the construction was found illegal. The colony is spread over 424 acres of marked forest land at the border of Delhi. The plot sizes range between 166 and 1,000 square yards. The court marked March 31, as the deadline for the inhabitants to vacate the entire premises.

A total of 44 structures in the area are scheduled to be demolished by July 31 out of which 20 have already been demolished by the district administration.

“Kant Enclave is a forest land and absolutely no construction activity could be permitted”, the court had stated in the ruling. The state government was asked to deposit Rs 16.5 crore in its registry for compensation. The compensation amount has been fixed between Rs 68,000 and Rs 1.3 crore as per the evaluation done by the senior town planner
