NEW DELHI: Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia said on Sunday, July 4, that poor Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR) in some places is affecting the overall PTR of Delhi, according to a report by Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) Plus 2019-20. The report cited by Sisodia is published by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
Sisodia said that almost 50 per cent of the municipal schools in the capital are not following Right to Education (RTE) Act’s mandate of PTR, whereas 98 per cent of the schools are maintaining the PTR. He also alleged that PTR of the municipal schools under BJP-ruled municipal bodies is poor, which is responsible for the mismanagement. He added that 98 per cent of the Delhi municipal schools have maintained the RTE-mandated PTR, while 58 per cent of East municipal schools, 46 per cent of the North civic schools, and 39 per cent of the South municipal schools have not maintained the PTR.
Sisodia said that Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government is providing world-class infrastructure in the schools, recruiting teachers and sending them to foreign countries for training.
