NEW DELHI: Ola announced on Wednesday, January 20, that it has collaborated with Siemens to build the most advanced electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub in Tamil Nadu. Ola had signed a Rs 2400 crore deal with the Government of Tamil Nadu to set up its first factory in the state. The factory, after completion, will provide jobs to 10,000 people in the state, the company said.
The proposed factory will be the world’s largest scooter manufacturing facility which will have a capacity of 2 million units. It will be Ola’s manufacturing hub for the customers in India as well as across Europe, the United Kingdom, Latin America, etc. The facility will be built on Industry 4.0 principles with almost 5,000 robots deployed to perform various function. The company said that under the deal, Ola has to access the integrated Digital Twin Design and manufacturing solutions by Siemens. It added that the factory will be powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Ola’s proprietary AI engine. This will improve the whole process due to unprecedented control, automation and improved quality in the operations. The factory will produce Ola’s upcoming range of two wheeler products beginning with Ola’s electric scooter. It has already won a lot of prestigious design and innovation awards around the world including Marketing Innovations award at CES and the German Design award.
Statement from the factory stated that it is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’. It added that the facility will reduce the country’s dependence on imports in key sectors such as electric vehicles, will boost the local manufacturing and create jobs as well.
