RANCHI: Newly renovated shelter home of Ranchi Municipal Corporation in the premises of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was inaugurated by Asha Lakra, Mayor of RMC on January 7.
There are number of facilities in the revamped shelter homes, box beds, cushions, blankets, and mosquito net as well as room heaters.
“Ranchi Municipal Corporation is constantly working towards the well being of its citizen and the new facilities in this shelter home will help the homeless combat the chilly temperature in winter,” said Asha Lakra
In the shelter home, seven beds have been installed while 13 more will be installed.
Vikas Kumar, City Manager said, “We have purchased 110 beds at present for all the shelter homes of RMC, costing Rs 12,000 each. All the shelter homes will be provided facilities similar to the one at RIMS.”
Under RMC, There are 13 shelter homes at present one is being renovated, two are newly constructed but not yet been handed over to RMC and there are 10 functional shelter homes.
Four private agencies has been assigned by RMC to operate these shelter homes, Jharkhand Infrastructural Construction Pvt. Ltd. which has seven shelter homes, Jamshedpur based Furida having two shelter homes, Sahyogini handling three shelter homes and Delhi based Santosh NGO having one shelter home.
RMC has also formed teams including 14 community officers and several enforcement officers to ensure proper functioning of these shelter homes, who will be paying a regular visits to these shelter homes and update RMC about their condition through GPS and photographs.
RMC isregularly conducting drives to identifythose spending nights on street and take them to shelter homes.
“We will form a team which will include two people from each of the four empaneled agencies who will move around at night, identify such people in need and take them to shelter homes,” Kumar said.
Kumar further added that RMC is also planning to install a sanitary pad disposal machine at the only women’s shelter home near Pahadi Madir with funds of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project.
