NEW DELHI: Government of India’s data, on Monday, December 14, showed that retail inflation has decreased to 6.93 per cent compared to the figure of same month last year. The inflation stood at 7.61 per cent in the previous month.

Rupa Rege Nitsure, Chief Economist, Larsen and Toubro (L&T), said that Consumer Price Index (CPI) has partially eased, as the experts expected, because of the sequential easing in the prices of food and beverages. However, the number at 6.93 per cent is still high and the core inflation remains at a high rate of 5.57 per cent, he added.

According to the data released by the central government, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation rose to the highest number in last 9 months even as the food prices have remained cool. The WPI inflation was recorded at 1.48 per cent in October 2020, and 0.58 per cent in November last year. As the prices of food items remained steady in November, manufactured items showed inflation with increased prices.
