LUDHIANA: The residents having buildings constructed in area of 100 sqm(119 square yards) and above will have to ensure rainwater harvesting and show it in their building plan approval application. A few days ago,the local bodies department notified building bylaws 2018, under which the strict implementation of rainwater harvesting is made mandatory.
Earlier, the rainwater harvesting system was not a part of the building bylaws, but a letter was issued by the government in the year 2014 for ensuring rainwater harvesting in residential buildings above 250 square yards and for commercial buildings above500 square yards.
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation(LMC)fixed a fee amount of Rs 25,000 for residential buildings and Rs 50,000 for commercial buildings. This amount is refundable. If the resident applies for a completion certificate from MC, then it is returned to the concerned person after the final inspection.
As per the notification, all buildings with plot size of 100 sqm or more, while submitting the building plans for sanction, shall compulsorily include the complete proposal of rainwater harvesting.
