NEW DELHI: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cannot be achieved without realizing child rights, said Amitabh Kant, Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog on Tuesday, November 16. At an event organised by Save The Children, a child rights NGO, he said Sustainable Development Agenda has huge implications for the rights of children.
It is important to prioritize children in the endeavor to achieve SDGs as Sustainable Development Agenda has huge implications for the rights of children, Kant stated. All United Nations member states in 2015 adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. There are 17 SDGs that are in an urgent call for action and the most imperative step is that of realization of children’s rights.
“The pandemic has highlighted the vulnerable and at-risk children and this requires a multi-stakeholder discussion to address their needs effectively,” said Rakesh Ranjan, Mission Director (Aspirational Program), NITI Aayog. The Government of India has always been committed to ensure that policies and programs are inclusive and address the needs of children.
