RANCHI: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to build a permanent pathway measuring 400 meters from Shaheed Chowk to Sarjana Chowk, for pedestrians.
Earlier this month, the RMC started a trial run of the pathway and defined the width of 4 meters as a footpath along the road with a yellow line and sliding road barriers. But overnight demarcation line was wiped out and vehicles were parked on the demarcated area.
Sanjeev Vijayvargiya, deputy mayor of RMC, said that despite these setbacks, citizens appreciated the efforts made by the RMC. “That’s why we have decided to permanently construct a sidewalk for which design is being made,” added Sanjeev.
On the design layout, Sanjeev said that the public works department (PWD) was all set to float a tender on Friday, August 30, to construct drainage on the main road.
“The proposed drain will be covered with slabs and be slightly elevated. Some additional construction will be done so that it becomes a dedicated footpath. Its width will be around 6 meters and it will be protected with an iron grille,” said Sanjeev.
The deputy mayor further added that the corporation, along with traffic police, would also survey the capital to check which major roads and squares needed dedicated footpaths for pedestrians.
