JAIPUR, Rajasthan: The Rajasthan government has informed in the state assembly that in the last four years, it has earned about ₹851.3 crores from the green tax levied on vehicles. The collected tax is spent on initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and improving transport facilities in the state.
An official stated that the collected amount is spent on covering the operational losses of Rajasthan State Road Transport and other urban bus services. The fund is also used for constructing road over bridges, road under bridges, parking facilities, financing developmental activities in urban local bodies, and environmental protection activities. An official informed that the fund is used by the local self-government department, transport department, and Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation.
In Rajasthan, on non-transport vehicles, the minimum green tax amount is ₹750 and the maximum amount is ₹7500. In the case of transport vehicles, ₹2500 is charged; for light motor vehicles, ₹2500 is charged for the first six years starting from the date of registration; after that, ₹2000 is charged.
The state government informed that in the financial year 2019-20, it earned ₹218.5 crore as green tax. In 2020–21, only ₹173.8 crore was collected. After that, in 2021–22, the collected amount was ₹222.7 crore, and in 2022–23, this increased to ₹236.2 crore.
