LUCKNOW: The latest technology to be used by railways this winter to deal with fog and rail fractures is on display at the 3- day exhibition InnoRail 2018, inaugurated at Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) stadium in Lucknow on November 22. A vehicular control unit (VCU) system developed by a US-based company is on display. It will help Indian railways improve signalling to help navigate trains during fog by giving the precise situation of trains on a single track.

Fibre Optic Acoustic Track Monitoring System, developed by Siemens in coordination with RDSO, another technology on display in the exhibition. The optic fibre will be laid along the track and a server will be installed in the engine which will be connected to the control room. The fibre will monitor track and send track condition report every second. A technical team will be deputed to handle any fracture, displacement or pits on track under the smart rail monitoring system. Globally used equipment, Eutalloy Powder Spray Gun used to repair tracks is also on display. It can repair track fracture and pits within a few minutes.

Virendra Kumar, director general, RDSO, said railway would use the high-end technology on display to improve and ensure safety and comfort of passengers.
