CHANDIGARH: Punjab Government is currently in negotiations with the Japanese government for the procurement of Japanese state-of-the-art, quick charge electric buses. Punjab plans to begin the pilot project for this by procuring five buses. The e-buses introduced in the pilot are intended to run on the Chandigarh –Patiala route.
The discussions would be furthered in the coming Punjab Investors Summit 2019, where Japan External Trade Organisation (JETO), a semi government Japanese body, would partner for the country session. JETO was set up to promote trade opportunities between Japanese organisations and other countries.
The session would also see participation from big Japanese automobile companies like Mitsui, SML Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Yanmar, according to Vini Mahajan, additional chief secretary, Industries & Commerce Punjab. Most of these companies are already doing extensive work in Punjab’s automobile sector, but are further to expand their operation in the coming years.
