NEW DELHI: According to Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Environment and Climate Change, the Union cabinet has approved the establishment of an international coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the same would be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the upcoming United Nations Climate Summit in New York on September 23. CDRI secretariat would be established as a society under The Societies Registration Act, 1860 in New Delhi. The by-laws of the society would be finalised by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in the near future.
CDRI’s primary operation would be to develop efficient mechanism which would help out countries in elevating their disaster management capacity by modifying it according to their vulnerability to specific calamities. These solutions would be developed by bringing together technical expertise from a multitude of stakeholders.
The cabinet has also decided upon the allocation of Rs 480 crore as fund to facilitate the CDRI in technical assistance, research projects and developing infrastructure in the coming five years.
