NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, February 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the latest edition of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS). The summit hosted by The Energy and Resources Institute will deliberate on the planetary resilience in wake of multitude of extreme weather events across the world in recent years.
The theme of the summit is ‘Towards a Resilient Planet: Ensuring a Sustainable and Equitable Future’. The experts at the summit will discuss on a range of issues including climate change, sustainable production, energy transitions to global commons, and resource security.
The keynote address will be delivered by Dr Irfaan Ali, President of the Republic of Guyana and Amina J Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General, United Nations. Bhupender Yadav, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, is set to make the opening address.
The summit is expected to see participation of Ministers of Environment from several nations, representatives from the United Nations, heads of inter-governmental organisations, and delegates from around 126 countries. Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, said that the summit is a conscious effort at developing a platform where stakeholders from across the globe sit together to deliberate on solutions that are based on sustainability and green growth. She said that the WSDS 2022 will play an important role in accentuating TERI’s role in providing technological, policy, as well as knowledge solutions.
