NEW DEHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi,on Sunday, February 7, launched multiple development projects, which also include Liquid Pressurised Gas (LPG) import terminal built by the Bharat Prtroleum Corporation Limited in Haldia of Purba Medinipur district in West Bengal.
Other development projects inaugurated by Modi include Dobhi-Durgapur Natural Gas Pipeline section of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga project and a Four-Lane Road Over Bridges-cum-Flyover at Ranichak, in Haldia.
Speaking in the inaugural event, Modi said that these projects would help modify Haldia into a big import-export centre of India. Stressing on the need for gas-based economy he said that the ‘One nation, one gas grid’ is an initiative to fulfil this urgent need of the hour. Families in West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh will be benefitted from the LPG import terminal. The sector will provide gas supply to more than two crore people, of which, one crore will be beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana. It will also provide employment.
Asserting the various positive changes that have been brought in the oil and gas sector in recent years which resulted in India becoming one of Asia’s biggest gas-consuming nations, Modi said that in the Budget 2021, the country has also announced a hydrogen mission, which will empower the clean fuel mission. PM further said that the 350-kilometres Dobhi Durgapur pipeline will not only help West Bengal but also assist ten districts of Bihar and Jharkhand.
