LUCKNOW: A monetary penalty has been imposed on seven private contractors in the city for violating National Green Tribunal (NGT) norms regarding construction work. As per NGT norms, the construction sites must handle the dispersion of dust into the atmosphere by covering it with green nets.
These are some imperative measures to be considered and executed because the huge amount of dust raised from construction activities further combines with mist/fog in the winters to form smog, which in return deteriorates air quality and causes several health issues among people, Times of India (TOI) reported. The district administration had released strict measures to all civic and development agencies on Friday, November 12, for the implementation of NGT guidelines.
Moreover, people across the city complained that the construction debris piled up on the roads also became a cause of accidents and traffic jams. “I was returning home from college on a two-wheeler along with my brother when we lost balance due to the sand and stones left unattended by workers on the construction site near my house,” said Deepika Joshi, a resident of Nirala Nagar told TOI. Ajay Dwivedi, Municipal Commissioner, Lucknow said that teams under command of executive engineers have been employed in all eight zones across the city to impose monetary penalties on developers violating NGT norms at construction sites.
