KANNUR: Panchayats of Kannur district are going to form a disaster management committee to provide disaster management and relief activities during occurrence of natural calamities such as earthquake.
The committees are being made to take necessary precautions
and to provide necessary aid in case of any natural disaster.
The formation of disaster management committeeswas announced at the
district-level disaster management training programme held on April 29, as a part
of the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project (NCRMP).
The panchayat-level committee with panchayat president as its chairman will have panchayat secretary, village officer, and representatives of the police, fire and rescue services, Kudumbashree Mission and differently abled people as members.
According to a press release, in the first phase, the trainings were given to secretaries from 35 panchayats in the district, remaining panchayat secretaries’ trainings are scheduled for next month.K JCyriac, State coordinator, NCRMP and K VLakshmanan, Fire Station Officer, Kannur conducted the classes for panchayat secretaries.
