NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, had announced in October 2019, that it would grant ownership rights to those living in unauthorised colonies in Delhi. Following the announcement, a list of colonies eligible under the scheme was released and the registration process started early this year. Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, on Tuesday, August 11, tweeted that more than 1,109 Conveyance Deeds and Authorisation Slips have been handed over to the government by those living in the unauthorised colonies. Under the Pradhan Mantri – Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY), over 50 lakh citizens residing in 1,731 unauthorised colonies in Delhi are set to benefit and gain legal rights to their homes. So far, 2,90,313 people have registered. Puri urged others to register soon as well.
According to the MoHUA, 2,773 field surveys have so far been conducted by agencies in these colonies.
