HYDERABAD: Osmania University plans to set up solar power plants so that it generates 5MW power for its need and to reduce the electricity bills it pays every month.
OU vice-chancellor Prof S said Rs five crore is needed to set up the infrastructure for a solar power plant to generate around one MW power. “There is enough land on the campus and we will make use of it to set up the solar power plant,” he said.
To set up power plants, Osmania University is seeking funds given by the Union HRD ministry under Rashtriya Uchchatar Siksha Abhiyan. OU is seeking “institute of eminence” tag which will enable the university to take funds from Union HRD ministry for new developments in the campus area. The Union Grant Commission will declare 10 public and 10 private institutions and tag them as “Institute of eminence” which will enable them to seek funding from Union HRD for their development into world class institutions.
