COIMBATORE: The water level in the Siruvani reservoir dropped to around a foot-and-a- half above the dead storage level. The maximum level of the reservoir is 49.50 ft.

Water managers in the Coimbatore Corporation and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board said that the falling water level is a cause for concern but not a cause to worry as the board would be able to draw the water available below the dead storage level which could supply water at least a week to the city. Around two – three feet is the level of water present below the dead storage.

Although the news regarding monsoon clouds hovering on the city brings hope of rains but till the water level increases back post rains, the corporation will have to do with the 17 MLD of water from the current reserves.

The corporation is using 11 of the 17 MLD to distribute water to residents in P N Pudur, Vadavalli, Veerakeralam, Kavundampalayam, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Government College of Technology and other establishments west of Thadagam road and the remaining 6 MLD to distribute to residents in and around R S Puram.

The corporation is diverting 16 MLD of Pilloor water from the Ramakrishnapuram master storage reservoir on Sathyamangalam road to make up for the fall in Siruvani supply. 10 MLD of the 16 MLD reaches Siruvani-fed areas through the pump in Kannappan Nagar and the rest via a pipeline link in Tatabad.
