BHUBANESWAR: Odisha will be receiving an investment of Rs 441.66 crore for the demand-side management (DSM) program. The program was launched by the Institute of Sustainable Communities, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in partnership with four distribution companies (DISCOMs).

The state will be receiving funds in a phased manner wherein the upfront and initial investment for the implementation of the project will be taken up by the EESL. It is estimated that the investments will be recovered by the participating consumers over the period of 3-5 years.

This utility-based DSM project will generate financial savings of Rs 12-13 crore for the DISCOMs of Odisha and Rs 73.57 crore for the consumers of DISCOMs. For sustainable growth, a country’s end-use energy efficiency and managing power demands are crucial. This has further emphasized the DSM Programme in Odisha as a vital enabler for improving the financial viability of DISCOMs.

Nikunja Bihari Dhal, Principal Secretary, Department of Energy, Government of Odisha said that the consumer too will be benefited from this deal through lowered energyconsumption and reduced energy costs. Odisha would also be able to address its increasing power supply costs, climate change, environmental degradation and security concerns through this DSM.
