BHUBANESWAR, Odisha: The Odisha government has given 26,691 Mission Shakti groups ₹100 crore as supervision fees (incentives) to strengthen community partnerships under various urban verticals, such as MUKTA, AAHAR, JALSATHIs, solid waste management, shelter for urban homeless, pickle making units, etc., that are ongoing throughout the state. The people’s confidence in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visionary leadership has been firmly reinforced by this action.
As part of community empowerment and institution building, around 50,000 Mission Shakti Groups have been formed and given priority to get involved in a number of activities.
In order to strengthen the initiative even more, emphasis has been placed on involving the community in all phases of planning and coordination as it holds the key to ensuring success of any initiative.
The highest focus has been given to community involvement since it fosters an environment of accountability and openness as part of grassroots governance at the local level.
The Mission Shakti Groups have already engaged in the maintenance of community toilets, Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants, Rental Housing complexes, Parks, etc to enhance the livelihoods of poor and vulnerable women in the urban areas.
The housing and urban development department stated, “We are pleased to share that ₹100 crore incentive has been paid to community partners so far who are engaged in various techno-managerial roles in diverse urban development programmes across all the 115 urban local bodies (ULBs). The community partners comprising Mission Shakti Groups are among our most trusted and valuable partners and we are proud of our partnership with them.”
