BHUBANESWAR, Odisha: The Government of Odisha has decided that all kutcha and water-bound macadam (WBM) roads in urban areas of the state will be upgraded into paver roads.
G Mathivathanan, Secretary of Department of Housing and Urban Development (H&UD), has asked the official to identify such roads and complete renovation by October 2023. He added, “The government has taken the decision as part of transformative urban governance under 5T initiative.”
As per the directives, all Kutcha and WBM lanes and streets will be repaired and renovated into paver roads. Kutcha roads will be the first to undergo the renovation process. WBM roads will be taken up for renovation after achieving substantial progress on Kuthca roads. To ensure transparency and smooth implementation of this project, Secretary Mathivathanan has asked to submit geocoordinates of the identified and validated Kutcha and WBM roads. The upgradation should cover one year of defect liability along with additional two years of maintenance to ensure the quality of work and that of roads.
