GURUGRAM: According to Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited, Gurugram’s primary bus service, Gurugaman bus service, has hit a daily ridership of 50,000 per month. The transit service was launched in September 2018 and has seen a substantial growth in the amount of passengers since. The authorities report that the passengers availing the transit service have jumped from 67 per cent between May and July of 2019, going from 30,000 to 50,000.

Officials attribute this increase to 2 factors- the first being the addition of two important routes since May, from Iffco Chowk to IMT Manesar, and from Huda City Centre to Bhondsi.

“Both these routes have added 26 buses to the Gurugaman fleet and are attracting about 6,000 users per day,” said Vanita Akhauri, public communications officer, GMCBL. Moreover, other routes have also been revised slightly for better performance, which may be attracting more commuters, GMCBL officials said.

Seasonal increase in commuters is also an underlying factor in the growth of the service. “In July, when schools reopen and summer holidays end, we usually see an uptick in mobility. It is definitely a reason for the numbers going up on the Gurugaman bus service as well,” an official from the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), which acts as a consultant for the Gurugaman bus service, said.
