Now, 2-wheeler healthcare service in Puducherry to benefit patients in remote areas

PUDUCHERRY: In a bid to make healthcare facilities more accessible to people in remote parts of Puducherry and in the adjoining villages, the Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College, a constituent of the Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (SBV), launched two-wheeler mobile healthcare services.

The newly launched outreach programme will provide healthcare services that will include health check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, diabetic care, dressing of wounds, geriatric care and facility for collection of blood or urine samples. The two-wheelers will be manned by professional nursing staff.

Professor Subhash Chandra Parija, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, flagged off the two-wheeler healthcare services. Professor Renuka K, Principal, Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College, and Swati Jayanth Pawar, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, were also present at the occassion.

Addressing the occasion, Professor Parija said, the initiative will help make the healthcare accessible to poorest of the poor in the remote corners of the city.

The service will be made available from Monday to Saturday and a qualified nurse along with a student would be posted at the hospital, said Professor Renuka.

 Renuka added, “This concept of healthcare is attracting good response from the needy non-ambulatory patients of remote areas and is largely welcomed by them.”
