NEW DELHI: Jai Prakash, Mayor, North Delhi, on Wednesday, August 26, expressed his concerns over the rising water level in Yamuna River in a letter to Satyendra Jain, Minister of Urban Development, Government of Delhi, and urged him to take immediate action to avoid a flood-like situation in neighboring areas.
Jai Prakash warned that the water levels in the Yamuna River have been rising continuously since water is being released from the Hathini Kund barrage in Haryana and as a result, it is posing a threat to low-lying areas around the river and a flood-like situation can arise. He added that he had inspected the areas near the river and found that the people living in those areas were facing many problems. He further requested Satyendra Jain to issue orders to the flood control department and public works department to make motor boat facilities available in the areas around the Yamuna River so that the problems of people living in those areas can be resolved.
