NEW DELHI: The Delhi government does not intend to impose parking charges on people of Delhi for letting them park their vehicles inside residential colonies.
Kailash Gahlot, Transport Minister, asked the department to remove the proposal to allow the civic agencies to charge from residents for parking their cars and two-wheelers within residential areas. The decision was taken in a meeting on January 30, 2019 to finalise the government’s new parking policy.
Gahlot said, “the policy says that municipal corporation will collect the proposed fees for parking cars in the residential colonies. This is not advisable, despite paying the fee, there will be no guarantee that cars will be safe.” He also said that parking fee clause is “unjustified”. Gahlot on January 31, 2019, sent the file back to the state transport department for its removal.
An official said that Gahlot had asked the department to delete sub-sections 1 to 5 of Clause 12 of the draft policy dealing with the issue and put up the revised proposal in the public domain in the next few days.
