NMCG executive committee approves pollution abatement projects

NEW DELHI: Executive Committee of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), in its 43rd meeting, has approved projects related to industrial and sewerage pollution abatement and development of the Kalindi Kunj ghat landscape. The meeting was chaired by G Asok Kumar, Director General, NMCG.

In the meeting, ‘Afforestation Programmes in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, 2022-23’ Project, worth Rs 10.30 crores, was approved. The project includes plantation, maintenance, capacity-building training, and an awareness programme in the two Ganga basin states. The project aims to improve forest cover, forest diversity and productivity, biodiversity conservation and promote sustainable land and ecosystem management.

‘In-principle’ approval was also granted to the development of the landscape of Kalindi Kunj ghat, including the eco-friendly seating, waste bins, shades and plantation to facilitate people-river connection.

A pilot project for the installation and commissioning of electrochemical technology based modular effluent treatment plant with 100 KLD capacity, costing Rs 77 lakhs has also been approved. The project will treat the effluents released, from textile industries in Mathura, using eco-friendly and clean technology. The cost of Rs 23.37 crores has been approved to deal with the problem of sewerage pollution in Gauri Kund and Tilwara in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand by construction of sewerage treatment plants of 200 KLD, 10 KLD, 6 KLD and 100 KLD capacities.
