NEW DELHI: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) asked for a report from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) regarding the air pollution around Shakurbasti railway station due to loading and unloading of cement.

A vacation bench of Justice K Ramakrishnan and expert member Nagin Nanda directed the railway officials to submit a report about the activities done in the area.

The NGT was hearing a petition filed by the resident Anubhav Kumar, claiming that air pollution is caused due to uneven loading and unloading of cement near Rani Bagh, Shakurbasti, Raja Park, Panjabi Bagh, Srinagar, Madipur and near Shakurbasti railway station.

Before going further in the matter, the bench considered it to be necessary to obtain a report from the DPCC who will inspect the area in question and ascertain the reality of the charges imposed. If found violation of any law related to pollution, then penal action as per the law will be taken.

The DPCC and the railway officials are directed to submit their factual and action taken reports within a month through e-mail, the NGT said.

“The applicant can present a full set of papers to the DPCC, station superintendent/terminal manager (CRWC), cement siding at Shakurbasti railway station, New Delhi 110034 and the chief goods supervisor, cement siding at the railway station and file an affidavit of service within a week,” the green bench said.
