ROPAR: Justice Jasbir Singh (retd), Chairman of an NGT committee monitoring pollution level in Punjab’s Sutlej, Beas and their various tributaries along with solid waste management in the state, addressed a meeting of civic officials of Ropar on January 23. He asked the officials to put forth concerted efforts to conserve the environment from growing pollution and effects of global warming. He urged the gathering to take concrete steps to tackle the growing menace of pollution in the city and directed the officials to ensure regular inspection of industries, stone crushing plants and brick kilns of Ropar. He also expressed concern over the growing environmental pollution, saying that it poses a grave threat to the generations to come.
Further, he sought more information from the officials regarding river and canal cleaning, sewage disposal and handling of bio-medical waste generated from the hospitals of the city.
