AHMEDABAD: The Paryavaran Suraksha Samiti (PSS) along with three other NGOs – Khedut Ekta Manch, Paryavaran Mitra and Gujarat Lok Samiti have asked Gujrat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) to take initial action against industries for ignoring the orders of apex court on February 22, 2017.
Rohit Prajapati, a PSS official said that the apex court ordered for the proper treatment of liquid waste and sewage before being released into the Sabarmati river. The orders were issued by the court considering the river pollution problems. PSS also claimed that the failure of Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner (AMC) in not monitoring the actions taken by industries and not following the orders of the Supreme Court.
The court issued the orders to protect the river as well as surface and groundwater from pollution, the polluted water affects health of people and the polluted water is being used by the farmers along the river bank for growing vegetables and fruits.
Prajapati said that the GPCB, being the regulatory authority, should ensure that the apex court’s directions were implemented.
