Swachh Survekshan 2018 Launched in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Swachh Survekshan 2018 is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) conducted by the government of India to encourage cities to improve their urban sanitation. The objective of the initiative is to encourage large-scale citizen participation and create awareness amongst all sections of society about the importance of working together towards making towns and cities a cleaner and better place to live in. Keeping this in mind, Swachh Survekshan 2018 was in the city by Guwahati Municipal Corporation at Guwahati Town Club recently.

In this regard, the ‘Swachhata App’ plays a critical role, wherein the citizens can register their complaints and the authorities will immediately look into it within a specified time frame. A city-based survey will be conducted by Guwahati Municipal Corporation to assess the cleanest school, hotel, hospital, market association and resident welfare association (RWA) in the city and recognize the winners category-wise.  In this regard, Mrigen Sarania mentioned about source segregation. He said, “Every week Tuesday and Friday are kept to segregate dry waste and wet waste. For this 58 NGO’s are appointed and divided in various areas for different works related to cleanliness.” He also requested the entire media fraternity to spread the word amongst general public so that Guwahati stands as the Number One clean city amongst the whole country.

Additionally, the survey also intends to foster a spirit of healthy competition among towns and cities to improve their service delivery to citizens, towards creating cleaner cities.

People can play their part in making Guwahati cleaner by reporting garbage and trash in their neighbourhood with just a photo, as the administration cannot clean what they are not aware of and therefore the citizens can make their contribution by informing them of the trash in their neighbourhood for a quick action.
