WELLINGTON: The oceanic country of New Zealand is one of the very first countries to lift all COVID-19 restrictions and declare themselves COVID-19 free. Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister, New Zealand, said that there were no longer any active cases in the country according to the nation’s health officials.
The country will not, however, lift stringent border controls due to obvious reasons. New Zealand was completely locked down for 4 weeks on March 25, after which, guidelines were slowly eased.
The Prime Minister lauded her countrymen, who adhered to the rules of the lockdown. She said that the collective results of New Zealand speak for themselves. According to Google data, people of New Zealand had stayed at home more than the people of Australia, Britain and the United States.
New Zealand follows Montenegro, who declared themselves COVID-19 on May 25, Fiji on June 5 and Faroe Islands on May 9.
